Possible Symptoms in Brain Tumour Patients
The symptoms caused by a brain tumour are very varied, depending on the location of the tumour. They may occur solitary or in combination, and are divided into four main groups:
Signs of Intracranial Pressure
- Headache (new onset, especially at night and morning)
- Nausea and vomiting
- Disturbance of consciousness (drowsiness to coma)
- edema of the retina of the eye
- slow pulse
Neurological Failure
- Numbness (in one half of the body or different extremities)
- Muscle weakness and paralysis
- Deafness
- Speech
- Dysphagia
- Sensory disturbance (e.g. concerning heat, cold, pressure, touching)
- Vision impairment (e.g. blurred vision, visual field defects)
Epileptical Seizures
- Simple partial seizures
- Complex partial seizures
- Generalized seizures
Psychological Changes
- Personality change (e.g.mild irritability, increased distractibility)
- Change in mental health (depression, apathy, anxiety)
- Memory impairment (impaired concentration, forgetfulness)
- Disorientation
